Trabuco Hills 34 San Gorgonio 7 Friday 11/15 (CIF round 2: Division 8)
The Mustangs traveled out to San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino on Friday 11/15 and came away with a decisive 34-7 win. Trabuco Hills scored on its first four possessions and forced two red-zone turnovers to advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 8 semifinals.
The loss was the first defeat at home for the San Gorgonio Spartans, who finished the season at 9-3. The Spartans were attempting to win their third CIF Southern Section title in four years.
The Mustangs rolled up 400 yards of offense, with 268 of those coming on the ground, and seemed to move down the field at will. Drew Barrett led the way with 101 yards and two TDs on 22 attempts, and senior quarterback Aidan Armstrong had some strong option runs and finished with 81 rushing yards on seven attempts. Junior quarterback Jaxon Smaler completed 7 of 10 passes for 132 yards.
The Mustang fan family traveled well and turned out in large numbers to support their team and show their loyalty. It appeared that the size of the crowd in the visitor stands was bigger than the home crowd. Who knows. But it was clear that Trabuco’s fan base let their presence be known!
